New Media Explorations of Space, Matter and Movement

This was the first STEMArts pilot project with the goal of exploring multisensory learning modalities (visual, kinesthetic, auditory, interpersonal, etc.) to communicate core STEM concepts, based on a core theme from the National Science standards. We wrote and received a Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation grant for the Taos Academy which brought Dutch installation artist, Dienke Nauta, into the school to lead an 8 week intensive workshop focusing on that theme. Dienke explored the theme of Space, Matter and Movement. Students created installation models and were guided through the process of creating objects and spaces that explored scientific and mathematical concepts. Students presented their creations to their peers school wide and explained the thought process that led to their discoveries.
