ESSS in Oeiras, Portugal receive VR Training for Space Messengers

As part of the SAP Lab Residency organized by SAP Lab Director, Dr. Catarina Pombo Nabais, at the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Science. Agnes Chavez, STEMarts Lab founder, visited Escola Secundaria Sebastiao e Silva in Oeiras Portugal to start training students in VR technologies. This group of 25 7th-12th graders included students that participated in the 7-week Space Messengers workshop in 2021, some of the lead STEMarts Ambassadors that were ‘experience guides’ at the Festival Internacional de Ciencia (FIC.A) that year, and a new cohort of students that will be joining the Space Messengers project this year. Students and teachers learned how to operate the Oculus Quest 2 headsets and played with Tilt Brush to paint in 3D space. We will be coming back in October for their final VR training to lead the STEMarts VR Stations at the 2022 FIC.A festival. Special thanks to the now certified STEMarts teachers, Ana Carvalho and Cristina Pinho who integrate this project into their curriculum to make it possible.
