STEMarts Design Tool
Get Started
The STEMarts Design Tool provides the step-by-step process to participate in the Space Messengers Mixed Reality installation that will be traveling around the world. Through the Design Tool you will;
- Connect. Collaborate, learn and create with students around the world.
- Explore. Meet the creative team and explore the art of live performance projection, data visualization and video mapping.
- Research. Research the science behind the art. Watch the videos of science and cultural experts sharing their unique knowledge about the universe.
- Create. Co-write space messages and collect/animate the images that will become part of the art.
- Radiate. Radiate out to the world your thoughts and wishes for a sustainable interplanetary future as part of a traveling installation at festivals.
Connect with students in other countries
Connect with students from around new Mexico and around the world to collaborate on the Space Messengers sci-art installation as a shared experience. Become a STEAM Ambassador representing your community and your country.
- Teachers register your school to become part of the Space Messengers program.
- Once registered you will receive training on how to participate and implement the Space Messengers project in your classroom.
- We will provide a Zoom visit for students to meet the artists and introduce the project.
Explore the art. Meet the creative team
Explore the Creative Team to meet the artists who have collaborated to make possible the Space Messengers sci-art installation.
- Watch the videos of their past installations to get a glimpse of the kind of art we will be creating together.
- Learn about the features of the Space Messengers installation; Tagtool live projection, Interactive real-time messaging, interactive soundscape and VR/Metaverse design.

Research the science behind the art
Watch the Speaker videos to meet the scientists and interdisciplinary experts who have informed the Space Messengers installation. Enter the keyword RESEARCH in the STEAM wiki below to find out more about their work.
- Understand the universe through particle physics, from CERN physicist, Dr. Steven Goldfarb.
- See how wrinkles in spacetime open up new windows to the universe with astrophysist, Dr. Nicole Lloyd-Ronning.
- Delve into the role of planetary protection in space exploration with Frank Tavares, NASA communication specialist.
- Learn about space law and the Outer Space Treaty with Michelle Hanlon, Air and Space Lawyer.
- Explore the magnificent adventure of philosophy, science and art with sci-art curator, Dr. Catarina Pombo-Nabais to see how we as human beings find meaning in the universe.
- Experience your connection to the stars and our obligations for protecting the land, water and plants on Grandmother Earth, with Lakota Cultural specialist, Steve Tamayo.
Time to create!
Now that you have been connected and collaborated with your STEMarts team to explore the universe through art, science and technology, it is time to express and share what you learned using the Space Board, a collaborative writing and drawing platform.
- In this stage you will learn to use the Space Board to co-write science facts, and share your thoughts and wishes for a sustainable interplanetary future.
- Login to the Space Board to start chatting and co-writing messages with your STEMarts team.
- Enter the keyword CREATE into the STEAM wiki below to access all the tools and resources you need to start creating.
Radiate your messages out to the world
The space messages and images that you created are automatically integrated into the Space Messengers installation and will be projected at Festivals around the world.
- Your messages will be seen projected live and also scrolling on the Space Messengers website in real time for each event.
- You can attend the event in person if it’s in your city, or enter the STEMarts Metaverse which will be hosting the Space Messengers VR experience. Or you simply watch the livestream through the Space Messengers website.
- The audience whether in person or online can interact by sending messages from their devices.
